Mediascapes, pioneered by Hewlett-Packard, are location-based experiences,
games and tours on a handheld device. Here you can download the
software, grab the latest mediascapes created by the community and most
importantly, learn how simple it is to make your own. On Monday 3rd December 2007, Armin Elsaesser was invited to direct a series of workshops on the Production of Audio for Mediascapes at mscapeFest07. mscapeFest is a two day conference for mediascape enthusiasts, involving workshops
mentored by industry professionals, speakers from a range of
backgrounds, and the showcasing of mediascapes. Audio for Mediascapes
Armin Elsaesser produced sound effects and music for a collection of games for Mediascapes on behalf of computer games developer Fluffy Logic. One of them, Hidden Danger UXB, is a bomb disposal game. Using audio, graphics, a handheld GPS device, and an open space to play in, user's can locate unexploded bombs (or UXB's) and disarm them.

Illumination is a short film written and directed by Liz Crow, commissioned by the UK Film Council's Digital Shorts scheme in association with South West Screen, with sound design by Armin Elsaesser. Illumination had it's premiere screening at Arnolfini in Bristol, and has further screenings at Liberty Festival in London. A link to download the film coming soon!!!
Riot 1831! This is an interactive play for voices taking place in the digital dimension, written, produced and directed by Liz Crow and Ralph Hoyte, with sound design by Armin Elsaesser.

As part
of a three week experimental research trial, visitors to Queen Square
(in Bristol) could immerse themselves in a dramatic experience in the
very space where the riots took place in 1831. Equipped with a
backpack, a set of headphones and a GPS locator, movement through the
square would trigger sounds and voices. Users could alter their
position and control who and what is heard. Art and technology immerse
the listener in the Bristol Riots and the experience is shaped by
themselves. The project created as part of the Mobile
Bristol project, was written by Liz Crow and Ralph Hoyte, and took
place on April 15th to May 4th 2004. More information

A Walk in the Woods
This project with Hewlett Packard Labs Bristol
was
an experiment in tying
context-sensitive audio clips to the viewing user in a traditional
exhibition space. The installation took
place in January 2002 and featured 24 striking photographs of a nearby
woodland by artist Liz Milner agmented with a location sensitive
digital soundscape created in collaboration with musician Armin
Elsaesser. The
project used context-sensitive hardware and wearable technologies under
development
by HP Labs Bristol and Bristol University Wearable Computing as part of the Mobile Bristol
